Job Summary: The Lafayette Catholic School System (LCSS) has an opening for a full-time experienced Director of Campus Ministry to lead and coordinate our campus ministry program at Central Catholic Jr./Sr. High School. The Director will develop and oversee a comprehensive campus ministry program that aligns with the school’s mission and values. The Director of Campus Ministry will report to the school principal and work closely with the school's administration, faculty, and staff to promote the spiritual growth and development of our students.
Primary Purpose: The aim of Campus Ministry is to work with students, faculty, staff, and parents, to ensure Central Catholic exhibits a true Catholic identity. The Director of Campus Ministry must be a practicing Catholic with an active sacramental and faith life and in good standing with the Church. Under the supervision of the principal and working with the Assistant Campus Minister, they oversee all aspects of the Campus Ministry program which exists to help create a faith-filled and Christ-centered environment. They collaborate with the Administration, our parent group, the Theology department, and all faculty and staff to create an integrated experience of faith. By engaging with students and staff directly, this position brings to life the school’s spiritual life and faith-in-action. The Director of Campus Ministry must be prayerfully discerning as our school community grows ever more toward holiness and sainthood. They must be spiritually mature, theologically trained, and socially relatable enough to be able to lead this community to whatever God is calling us to be.
ADMINISTRATIVE RESPONSIBILITIES
Implement through cross-curricular integration the National Catholic Standards and Benchmarks as issued by the Catholic Schools Standards Project.
Develop a strong working relationship with the local Catholic community, including the Bishop, parish priests and community religious, encouraging their participation in the daily school life of students (i.e., weekly Mass, guest speakers, sacraments, etc.).
Share the responsibility for Protocol Training and ensure the school adheres to the Protecting God’s Children Safe Environment Curriculum.
Provide pastoral care and counseling to students, faculty, and staff as needed.
Evaluate and adapt campus ministry programs to better meet the needs of the students and the school.
Perform duties as assigned by the administration (i.e., teacher recruitment and retention, supervisory roles [ministry of presence], student orientation, etc.).
Promote student involvement in their parish (i.e., attend Mass, youth groups, ministries, events, Sunday school, etc.).
Maintain records and generate reports on campus ministry activities.
Be a resource to the Theology Department on current Catholic teachings, theological thought, and scripture studies.
Promote opportunities for continuing educational and professional development during the year.
Coordinates use of the Chapel
QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor’s degree or higher with a major or minor in Theology preferred.
Practicing Catholic with a deep commitment to the Catholic faith and a strong understanding of Catholic theology and spirituality.
Experience teaching theology a plus.
Ability to build strong working relationships with parish priests, religious, parents, and students a must.
Experience working in a Catholic high school or other Catholic ministry setting.
Strong organizational and leadership skills.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to work collaboratively with others.
Demonstrated commitment to the Catholic social teaching and values.
Familiarity with current trends and best practices in campus ministry.
Utilizes effectively and appropriately 21st century technology including standard office equipment such as computers, photocopiers, and smartphones.
Able to honor & maintain confidentiality.
Able to pass and maintain Diocesan child safety protocols.
The position requires the ability to talk and hear. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and ability to adjust focus, including visual acuity to see computer screen.
Able to move about the work environment and stand the whole day. Able to move tables and chairs, occasionally lift and/or move up to 30 pounds, lift files, open storage unit and storage bins, and bend or stand on a stool if necessary.
Performs other duties as needed and assigned.
