1. Have legal settlement in Indiana
2. Be between the ages of 5 and 22 no later than August 1 of the school year
3. Be accepted for enrollment into a participating Choice school

 

INCOME ELIGIBILITY

The value of the Choice Scholarship is the lesser of: 

1. Tuition and fees charged to the student at the eligible school; or,
2. An amount based off the per-student state funding for the student’s school corporation of residence, determined as follows:

• Full scholarship (90% of formula amount) if household income is up to 69% if the student is eligible under the Pre-K pathway
• Full scholarship (90% of formula amount) if household income is up to 100% for all other pathways EXCEPT the Pre-K pathway
• Partial scholarship (50% of formula amount) if household income is up to 150%
• Partial scholarship (50% of fomula amount) if household income is up to 200% if the student is eligible under Continuing Choice OR Special Education pathways

STUDENT ELIGIBILITY PATHWAYS

Continuing Choice Scholarship Student Pathway

• The student received a Choice Scholarship in the school year that immediately precedes the school year for which the student is applying for a Choice Scholarship.
• The student is required to have remained enrolled at the Choice School for the entirety of the immediately preceding school year.
• The student is a member of a household with an annual income equal to or below 200% of the amount to qualify for the federal free or reduced lunch program.

 
Previous Choice Scholarship Student Pathway

• The student received a Choice Scholarship in a school year that does not immediately precede the school year for which the student is applying for a Choice Scholarship, OR
• The student received a Choice Scholarship in the immediately preceding school year but the student exited the Choice School prior to the end of the school year, AND
• The student is a member of a household with an annual income equal to or below 150% of the amount to qualify for the federal free or reduced lunch program.

Previous SGO Award Pathway

• The student received Tax Credit Scholarship from an approved Scholarship Granting Organization (SGO) in a previous school year, including a school year that does not immediately precede the school year for which the student is applying for a Choice Scholarship.
• The seven approved Scholarship Granting Organizations (SGOs) are: 
  • Community Foundation of Elkhart County 
  • Institute for Quality Education (Formerly Educational Choice Charitable Trust) 
  • LaGrange County Community Foundation, Inc.
  • School Scholarship Granting Organization of Northeast Indiana 
  • Tuition Assistance Fund of Southwestern Indiana (Closed)
  • Sagamore Institute Scholarships for Education Choice 
  • The Lutheran Scholarship Granting Organization of Indiana
• The student is a member of a household with an annual income equal to or below 150% of the amount to qualify for the federal free or reduced lunch program.

Special Education Pathway

• The student has a disability that requires special education services.
• An Individualized Education Program (IEP) pursuant to IC 20-35 or a Service Plan (SP) pursuant to 511 IAC 7-34 has been developed for the student.
• The student is a member of a household with an annual income equal to or below 200% of the amount to qualify for the federal free or reduced lunch program.

 
"F" Public School Pathway

• The student would be required to attend a specific public school based on their residence that has been assigned an “F” grade.  Note: This pathway does not require prior attendance at the school. 
• The student is a member of a household with an annual income equal to or below 150% of the amount to qualify for the federal free or reduced lunch program.

Two-Semesters in Public School Pathway

• The student was enrolled in kindergarten through grade 12 in a public school, including a charter school, in Indiana for at least two semesters immediately preceding the first semester for which the individual receives a Choice Scholarship.
• The student is a member of a household with an annual income equal to or below 150% of the amount to qualify for the federal free or reduced lunch program.

Sibling Pathway

• The sibling of the newly applying student received either a Choice Scholarship or an SGO Scholarship in a preceding school year, including a school year that does not immediately precede the school year for which the student is applying for a Choice Scholarship.
• The student is a member of a household with an annual income equal to or below 150% of the amount to qualify for the federal free or reduced lunch program.

On My Way Pre-K Pathway

• The student received and used an On My Way Pre-K voucher under IC 12-17.2-7.2 to attend Pre-K at an eligible Choice Scholarship school.
• The student is applying for a Choice Scholarship at the same Choice Scholarship school in which they attended Pre-K with an On My Way Pre-K voucher.
• The student is a member of a household with an annual income equal to or below 69% of reduced lunch eligibility (127% of the federal poverty level).

 

How do I apply for a Choice Scholarship for my child?

If you think your child may be eligible for a Choice Scholarship, please contact one of the participating Catholic schools in the Diocese of Lafayette-in-Indiana listed in the column to the left as soon as possible, but no later than mid-August to ensure your child's application is submitted by the September 1st deadline. Schools will be able to assist families in determining eligibilty,  required documents for verification, and completion of the application process.
