Central Catholic Jr/Sr. High School: Central Catholic Jr./Sr. High School, established in 1957, is a Roman Catholic Jr./Sr. High school, grades 7-12 serving the Diocese of Lafayette in Indiana. Central Catholic is an A rated school by the Indiana Department of Education and has over 450 students. Central Catholic graduates 100% of its students and has over 90% move on to college.
Central Catholic is part of the Lafayette Catholic School System (LCSS). LCSS is a four campus, pre-K through 12 system that provides a Christ centered education to students in the Tippecanoe County, Indiana area. More than 1000 students are enrolled systemwide. The 4 schools that are part of LCSS are St. Mary Cathedral (pre-K - 3), St. Boniface (4 - 6), St. Lawrence (preK - 6), and Central Catholic Jr. / Sr. High School (7 - 12).
Overall Responsibility: The Lafayette Catholic School System is looking for a Junior High/High School Counselor to provide academic advising, along with career and college counseling for all students. In addition, the candidate must be able to provide individual social-emotional and/or adaptive behavioral support for individuals or groups of students. A successful candidate will advocate for students and systemic change when an aspect of the learning environment is interfering with learning and assist in managing the student services program in a positive and effective manner.
Major Job Responsibilities include:
ADVISOR (Academic Advisor and College/Career Exploration)
To incorporate the Indiana School Counseling Competencies in the areas of academic, career, and social-emotional development into daily work with students, parents and staff.
To develop and present lessons in a variety of settings including classrooms and small group meetings in the following areas:
Academic development
Career development
Social-Emotional development
COUNSELING
To provide student assistance for students having personal or social concerns that interfere with learning including individual counseling, group counseling, crisis counseling, and referrals to outside agencies.
To provide consultation to administrators, teachers, and parents regarding individuals or groups of students.
STUDENT ADVOCACY
To participate in and/or facilitate school improvement initiatives, promote the concept of high achievement for all students, advocate for a supportive learning environment for all students, promote an understanding of various ethnic or cultural groups, and provide assistance for teachers who are striving to help all students learn.
To work with teachers and families to develop support plans to meet the needs of students’ academic and social-emotional needs at school.
PROGRAM MANAGEMENT
To design an efficient system of “behind the scenes” activities that support the academic advising, counseling, and advocacy initiatives including the development of program foundation (mission, vision, belief statements), activity preparation, school and community networking, professional development activities, record keeping related to school counseling and school counseling evaluation activities.
SCHOOL COUNSELING PROGRAM ADVOCACY
To communicate about the school counseling program to students, teachers, administrators, parents, and community members.
To seek resources (time, funding, personnel) to support the school counseling program.
PROFESSIONALISM
To adhere to ethical standards of the state and national school counselor associations.
To adhere to preferred practices prescribed by state and national school counselor associations.
To demonstrate knowledge of local, state, and federal policies, regulations, and laws pertaining to school counseling.

Education and Experience Qualifications:
Meet the licensing requirements for “School Counselor” as defined by the Indiana Professional Standards Board.
3-5 years of recent experience in the middle and/or high school
Preferred knowledge and experience with Naviance for college and career planning
Experience with Student Information Systems (SIS) preferred, but not required.
Experience coordinating and administering standardized testing is preferred, but not required.
Experience developing the master schedule is preferred, but not required.
